Zigzoo is a young dragon who lives in a valley on a high mountain. He has four sharp claws, two branchy horns, and one long, spiky tail. When he breathes, red-hot fire sprays out of his throat and nostrils. When he roars, the forest shakes.

One day, after a heavy rain, the wet forest turns chilly. Zigzoo catches a bad cold. His scales turn blue, his fire is extinguished, and his voice is lost. Zigzoo worries that he will never breathe fire again. He turns to his grandmother for advice.

Grandmother is very wise and knows almost everything. “I have never heard of dragons catching a cold,” she says. “Colds are a human illness. You will have to go to the city to see a human doctor.”
Zigzoo takes Grandmother’s advice. He hugs her goodbye and sets off to see a human doctor in the west end of the city below the mountain.

The doctor fears that Zigzoo will breathe fire and burn down his office. He says, “Sorry, I do not have a stethoscope for dragons. Go to a doctor of Chinese medicine. He will examine you by feeling the pulse on your claw.”

Poor Zigzoo is disappointed, but grateful for the doctor’s referral. Off he goes to see the doctor of Chinese medicine.

The doctor of Chinese medicine worries that Zigzoo’s spiky tail could crush his house. He says, “Sorry, dragon, I do not have large needles to prick through your thick scales and perform acupunctures on you. You will have to go to an herbal medicine consultant.”
